Privacy Policy

Last updated October 22, 2026

Barn & Tack helps barns, trainers, riders and parents run barn life in one place: lesson and hack schedules, barn messages and announcements, horse rosters, show days and a marketplace for used tack. This policy explains what information we collect to do that, why, who can see it, and how to delete it. It covers the website at barnandtack.com and the Barn & Tack apps for iPhone and Android (“Barn & Tack”, “we”, “us”).

The short version
  • We collect what you give us to run your barn's schedule, messages and marketplace.
  • We use it only to run Barn & Tack. No ads, no tracking, and we never sell it.
  • Everyone approved into your barn sees your name and your horse's name. Your email, phone, address and the other profile details you add go only to the barn account and its trainers (and, for a rider, their linked parents). The public sees only barn pages and marketplace listings.
  • You can delete your account yourself, any time, in Settings.

What we collect

Information you give us when you create an account and use Barn & Tack:

  • Account details — your name, email address and password. Your password is handled by our sign-in provider (Google Firebase Authentication); we never see it.
  • Profile details — for example your phone number, address, riding clothes sizes, specific needs you choose to share (which can include health information, such as allergies or medical notes), association membership numbers, a short background, and details of your horse.
  • Barn details — for barn accounts: the barn's name, address, phone and contact emails, owner, manager and emergency contacts, number of stalls and paddocks, and the barn's page (logo, cover photo, gallery, colours and description).
  • Horse details — horses a barn adds to its roster: names, descriptions, stalls, owner and vet contacts, notes and photos.
  • Photos you upload — of your barn, horses or items you sell.
  • Messages — barn channels, direct messages between barn members, and marketplace conversations between buyers and sellers.
  • Schedules and activity — lessons and hacks, requests to change them, lesson requests, show-day RSVPs, join requests and invites.
  • Marketplace listings — titles, descriptions, prices and photos.
  • Feedback and reports you send us, with the page you were on and, in the apps, the app's version.

We don't collect your location, your contacts, payment card details or advertising identifiers, and Barn & Tack contains no advertising or analytics trackers.

What stays on your phone or computer

To work well, Barn & Tack keeps a few things on your own device: that you're signed in, a half-finished barn setup form (in the apps, for up to 7 days or until you sign out), your settings for this device and, in the apps, the lesson reminders you turn on and a short list of your upcoming sessions so the app can show them without a signal. Reminders are scheduled on your phone itself — we don't run a server that sends them. Signing out clears reminders and account data from the device.

How we use it

Only to run Barn & Tack for you and your barn:

  • to show you and your barn your schedule, messages, announcements, horses and profiles;
  • to let barns approve who joins them, and to let buyers and sellers talk;
  • to email you a link to confirm your address or reset your password — the only emails we send;
  • to review barns and marketplace listings before they go public, and to act on reports;
  • to answer your feedback and fix problems.

We don't show ads, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and we never sell or rent your information, or share it with anyone for their marketing.

Who can see what

  • Your barn — when you ask to join a barn, its barn account can see your profile, including your email address, to decide. Once your barn approves you, every approved member of it (the barn account, its trainers, riders and parents) can see your name, your role, your trainer and your horse's name, and a trainer's background and specialties. The rest of your profile — your email address, phone number, address, riding clothes sizes, horse details, memberships and any specific needs, including allergies or medical notes — is shown only to your barn account and its trainers and, for a rider, to the parents linked to them. A barn's owner, manager and emergency contacts are shown only to the barn account and its trainers. Only add what you're comfortable sharing with them. Your barn's calendar is shared with its approved members too: the barn account and its trainers work from everyone's sessions, while riders and parents are shown their own. Direct messages are only visible to the two people in them.
  • Everyone — approved barns' public pages (name, address, contact details, photos and description the barn chooses to publish) and active marketplace listings (with the seller's name and barn) can be seen by anyone, signed in or not.
  • The Barn & Tack team — a small number of administrators can see accounts and content to approve barns and listings, handle reports, help when you ask, and keep Barn & Tack safe.

Who helps us run it

Barn & Tack runs on Google Firebase — Firebase Authentication for sign-in, Cloud Firestore for the database, and Firebase Hosting for the website. Google processes this information on our behalf, under its own security and privacy terms, and stores it on its servers, which may be in the United States. The apps are distributed by Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play), whose own privacy policies cover your store accounts. We don't share your information with anyone else, unless the law requires it or it's needed to protect someone's safety.

How long we keep it, and deleting your account

We keep your information while you have an account. You can delete your account yourself at any time: in the app, or at barnandtack.com, open Settings and choose Delete account. It's permanent and happens straight away. How deleting works

Deleting your account removes your sign-in and your profile, and with them:

  • your upcoming lessons and hacks, and your requests and RSVPs (RSVPs in a barn you've since left are cleared by our team);
  • your marketplace listings, their photos, and your marketplace conversations;
  • your direct messages (for both people) and the messages you posted in barn channels;
  • for trainers, your announcements and invite links; for a barn that was never approved, the barn and its page.

What we keep afterwards:

  • past lessons, so your barn keeps its records — with your name replaced by “Former rider” or “Former trainer”;
  • feedback and reports you sent us;
  • messages other people posted in barn channels, and your barn's own records.

If you run an approved barn, deleting its account also closes the barn for everyone in it, so we finish that by hand within 7 days (you can ask us to hand the barn to someone instead). A barn that's handed over keeps its announcements and the barn account's posts in its Barn and Trainers channels as the barn's own records, under the name they were posted with; your direct messages, pending invite links and suggested profile changes are still deleted. Deleted information can take a little while to clear from our provider's backups; it's never restored into Barn & Tack.

Can't sign in? Email hello@barnandtack.com from the address on your account and we'll delete it for you within 30 days, usually much sooner.

Your choices

  • You can see and edit most of your profile yourself, on your profile page.
  • To change your name or sign-in email, get a copy of your information, or ask a question about it, email us — we'll answer within 30 days.
  • You can turn lesson reminders off in Settings or in your phone's settings.
  • You can delete your account at any time, as described above.

Depending on where you live, privacy laws may give you further rights, such as to access, correct or delete your information. Email us to use them; we won't treat you differently for doing so.

Children

Many riders are young. Barn & Tack is meant to be used by children under 13 only through a parent: a parent creates their own account, links their riders to it, and follows their lessons and barn news there. We don't knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 without a parent's consent. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information without that consent, email us and we'll delete it. Riders aged 13 to 17 should use Barn & Tack with a parent's permission.

Keeping it safe

Information travels over encrypted connections, and our database rules decide, for every read and write, who may see or change what — for example, messages stay inside a barn, and only the barn approves who joins it. Barn & Tack doesn't store your barn's information on a shared computer after you sign out. No system is perfect, though, so please use a password you don't use anywhere else.

Reporting a problem

If someone's messages or a listing aren't okay, report it — use Report conversation in the conversation's menu or Report listing on the listing — or email us. You can also block someone, which hides your direct messages and marketplace conversations with them from you. Your block list is private to you: the person isn't told, and other members can't see it. See our Terms of Use for the rules everyone agrees to.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in Barn & Tack before any significant change takes effect.
